Safety Groups UK is the co-ordinating body for a network of over 70 occupational health and safety groups spread around the country.
Groups provide a local forum for communicating health and safety information nationwide and offer help to employers, particularly small businesses.
Examples of Safety Groups UK initiatives:
• In conjunction with several local safety groups and the HSE run three Moving Goods Safely seminars,
a priority topic with plans in the pipeline for at least two more events in Leicester and Scotland
• In association with the HSE and the British Safety Industry Federation, Safety Groups UK delivered the DERM project, an innovative partnership aimed at stimulating action to combat occupational skin disease. We are now linked closely with the ‘Clean Air – Take Care’ campaign
• Safety Groups UK recognises, celebrates and communicates the work of the Safety Groups in the Alan Butler Awards. Recent winners were:
o Bradford Area Occupational Health & Safety Forum
o North West Wales Health & Safety Group
o Nottingham Occupational Safety & Health Association
o Safety Health & Environment Forum (Scotland)
The award presentations are hosted by Safety Groups UK President Lord Brougham & Vaux in the House of Lords each January
