Safety & Health Expo 2017, saw three experts come together to look at the impact of the sentencing guidelines, 16 months after they came into force. Michael Appleby, partner at Fisher Scoggins Waters, joined Jill Crawford, health and safety lawyer at BLM and Gary Rubin, Partner, head of regulatory team, Blackfords LLP, in the Keynote Theatre for the debate which looked at some of the key cases over the last year.
Grenfell tower inquiry
In an emotional debate, Dennis Davis of the Fire Sector Federation (FSF) said the industry was ‘creating the legacy for the next 50 years’ following the Grenfell tower fire. He said: ‘Time and time again, we are desperately worried about our building regulations, in particular the approved documents falling behind what is going on within the built environment. We must get over this.'
Negative impacts health and safety
Unconscious bias is having a crippling impact on health and safety, according to cultural change expert, Jeremy Lewis. Speaking at the keynote theatre at the Safety & Health Expo 2017, Lewis of PDT Global said examples such as the Deepwater Horizon oil rig incident highlighted ‘a classic situation of how unconscious bias seriously affected the outcomes’.
Occupational Health Checks
Wellbeing People were running health checks on stand T186 today - make sure you drop by for your very own MOT over the next two days. Speaking about their day, they said "It's been fantastic, we've been exhibiting here ever since the show moved to London but this year has been one of the busiest so far. Our health MOT has been a massive success and we are very happy with the outcome of day one."

Debs 1:2:1 skin evaluation
In the fight against occupational skin disorders (OSDs), Deb’s specialist team of Skin Care Advisors offered visitors Skin Condition Assessments on their stand.These one-to-one skin evaluations allow visitors to receive feedback on their skin condition, measuring things such as skin hydration and skin elasticity, whilst also providing advice on the correct product usage.
